Daniel W. Lewis

Mr. Lewis was admitted to the New Mexico State Bar in October 1991, at which time he joined Allen, Shepherd, Lewis & Syra, P.A. as an associate. In July 1997, he became a shareholder with the firm. Mr. Lewis devotes a significant portion of his professional practice to serving as a mediator and arbitrator in helping litigants resolve their disputes. His law practice is concentrated in the areas of insurance coverage and bad faith litigation; insurance coverage opinions; wrongful death defense; construction defects; defense of professionals; personal injury defense, including premises liability, products liability and automobile accidents. He is admitted to practice in all New Mexico State courts, the United States District Court for the District of New Mexico, the Tenth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the United States Supreme Court.

Mr. Lewis graduated cum laude from Brigham Young University in 1988 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English and a minor in French. Mr. Lewis received his juris doctorate from the J. Reuben Clark Law School at Brigham Young University in 1991, graduating in the top 15% of his class. He was a member of the Law Review and received an award for Outstanding Articles Editor.

Mr. Lewis has an "AV" rating from Martindale Hubbell. In 2016, he was selected Best of Albuquerque - Lawyer, and is listed in the 2017 edition of Best Lawyers in America© in the area of Insurance Law, and again in the 2018 and 2019 editions of Best Lawyers in America© in the areas of Insurance Law, and Litigation - Construction. In 2019, he was named as the Lawyer of the Year for Albuquerque in the area of Insurance Law by Best Lawyers in America©.

Mr. Lewis was the founding President of the New Mexico Chapter of the Federal Bar Association in 2013. He was elected in 2016 to serve a two-year term as National Vice President for the Tenth Circuit of the Federal Bar Association and was again elected to that position in 2018. In that role he serves as a member of the National Council of the Federal Bar Association. He is a member of the New Mexico Bar Association and has served as a Master Bencher in the American Inns of Court.
